DIY Cocktail Rings

These are fun and really easy to make. I like cocktail rings, but sometimes they can be kinda pricey. So, I decided to make some of my own.

For these rings I bought some old clip-on earrings. Then, I popped off the back clippy part. Take the front of the earring and glue them on a ring base. Voila! These rings probably took all of 2 minutes to make and cost little to nothing.

The possibility is endless with these puppies. There are all kinds of clip-on earrings out there, so just choose the style you like! Plus, earrings come in a pair, so you can make a cocktail ring for you.....and a friend!

Memorial Day Weekend

I hope y'all had a fantastic Memorial Day! Charlie and I had a pretty low key weekend and tried not to do much. Turns out....it was hot this weekend. And if you weren't out on the lake or by the beach it wasn't a lot of fun to be outside.

For Memorial Day, Charlie and I picked up my Grandmother went over to my Mom and Dad's house. We grilled out and and enjoyed some yummy foods.

The spread.

If you notice in the trifle bowl I made my yummy cucumber cornbread panzanella salad again. :)

I also made some red, white, and blue oreos. These are super easy to make and can easily be made for any holiday. Just change the sprinkles. (For example, I made these for St. Patrick's Day and used green sprinkles.) All you need is oreos, white chocolate, and your desired sprinkles. Heat the chocolate and start dippin.

Place them on some wax paper and I always pop them into the freezer for a minute to let the chocolate harden. It's that simple!

I hope y'all had a great Memorial Day weekend too!

Vacation Part 2

For the third of our trip Charlie and I ate at The Back Porch. Which, I thought, was the best place we ate at while in Destin.

This is a local place that was right next to where we were staying, so we took a nice stroll down the beach to get the restaurant. This place has a fun, relaxed beach front restaurant feel. Our table was right next to the window which was a plus. (Here's Charlie after I asked him to smile for a picture...he thinks he's cute.)

So I decided to play along. Here I am contemplating what I'm about to order...

I ended up order the Parmesan Mahi Mahi -- which was amazing. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that is planning a trip to Destin!

On our last night there we took a dolphin tour. I had bought the tickets on Groupon a few weeks back (half price!). Taking a dolphin tour not something I'd usually do, but thought it would be something fun - and different - for us to do. Plus, Charlie has this weird love of dolphins. So I knew he'd enjoy the tour. Here's Charlie anticipating seeing some dolphins!

We did get to see one pod of dolphins while we were out! Some were jumping out of the water and playing while others just came up to see everyone on the boat. This was the best picture I could get of the dolphins...they are quick little guys.

The tour was about 2 hours and we took the sunset cruise so we had some beautiful views while we were out on the water.

We had wonderful time and I'm already missing the beach. So long Destin...I'll miss you til next time!

Vacation Part 1

Charlie and I have survived the trip down here and enjoyed our first day at the beach. Isn't the beach beautiful down here?

On the way down here my car took a beating. (Have I mentioned that I think I have really bad luck with cars?) We were driving along a two-way highway, and bam a rock flew into our windshield and as soon as it hit it, it instantly cracked. Awesome. Check it out in the picture...it's not the smallest of cracks either. So, we're going to try and get it fixed while we're down here.

Other than the small mishap with the windshield, our trip has been great so far. The place that we're staying is right on the beach and has chairs and umbrellas set up all along the water. With our rental, we get 2 chairs and an umbrella which is really awesome. That way, we don't have to lug chair back and forth from the beach. Just our beach bags and towels.

One thing that is strange is that we haven't seen any seagulls! The only birds down here are the little beach birds that run around in the water but don't really fly (I know, terrible description, but I don't know what they are called) and pigeons. Yes. Pigeons. I'm pretty sure these pigeons are lost but they won't be finding their way back soon because Charlie decided he wanted to feed them some popcorn and pretzels. (Just so you know, they like popcorn better than pretzels.)

Our first night we ate at a local pizza place that was really good called Fat Clemenza's. Last night we ate at Harry T's. Harry T's is neat because it's located in this village/harbor area. There are a lot of little shops and other restaurants located right on the water. They had live bands playing and there was even a marina walk where you can walk on the boardwalk and see some of the nice boats docked.

This picture was taken at our hotel. There's a huge patio area that leads out to the boardwalk to get on beach.

I hope y'all are having a great week so far. Right now, we're headed back out to the beach for the rest of the day!

It's Finally Here!

So it's been a bit since I've last posted. I guess I've been slacking a bit, my apologies.

But guess what?! The time has finally come.....for our vacation! I'm super excited about going to the beach. Just as example, I started packing Wednesday (and we don't leave until tomorrow)!

This trip will mark the beginning of our summer. In just a little over two weeks Charlie and I will celebrate our THIRD anniversary! It's crazy to think we've been married for three years already! So this trip will be an early anniversary trip for us to celebrate.
Also, when I get back from the beach, the school year will be over. Which means my summer vacation will officially start! But, I have a feeling it won't be much of a vacation because I'll have about 9 weeks to get my classroom ready for school. Yikes! I've got a lot of work to do and I'm anticipating the fact that I'll be up at the school a lot over the next few weeks.

So off we go.....next stop.......a little fun in the sun!

Funfetti Cake Batter Chocolate Chip Cookies

If you want a yummy chocolate chip cookies with a cake batter flare, you'll want to try these. And what could be more fun than just regular ol' cake batter?? Funfetti. Sprinkles make everything more fun. Don't ya agree?

Here's what you'll need for these cookies:
Funfetti cake mix
1/3 cup olive oil
2 eggs
1 cup chocolate chips (or more if that's how you roll)

Mix all the ingredients together until batter is sticky. Then, take small sections of the batter, roll into balls and place on your cookie sheet.

Bake the cookies at 375 degrees for about 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown. I was able to make about 2 dozen cookies, but you could make more or less depending on how large or small you roll your cookies.

Enjoy!

Cucumber Cornbread Panzanella Salad

I heard that today is Star Wars day...May the 4th be with you....

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. :)

This is a great recipe for a light and airy summer salad. It's really easy to make and very yummy! I found this recipe from the Food Network, Everyday Italian.

Here's what you'll need:

2 cups of cornbread cut into cubes
1/2 cup halved cherry tomatoes
1/2 cup cubed fontina cheese
1/2 cup cubed cucumber
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil leaves
1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 lemon, juiced and zested
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Combine all ingredients into a large bowl...and enjoy!

If you want more cheese, tomatoes, or cucumbers you can add more to the mix to get a bolder taste. I actually used a whole cucumber when I made it because I wanted more of the cucumber taste.

*Sorry I don't have a picture of this salad, I gobbled it up before I remembered to take a photo!

A Visit to Paris....

....Tennessee, that is. Every year about this time Charlie and I make the trip up to Paris, TN to join in the festivities of the World's Biggest Fish Fry. There are tons of activities that go on during the weekend. There's the parade, the carnival, a rodeo, the fish tent (where you can get all you can eat catfish), and my favorite activity....the catfish races. We also took this opportunity to get both the Crowe family and some of Bobby's family together to celebrate Rita and Bobby's wedding.

This year we only got to attend one of the major events, the parade. There we saw lots of floats, bands, horses, and pageant winners (there are winners from all kinds of pageants!).

Here's one of my favorite floats from the parade. It was one to promote Paris' downtown. It was really cute with it's mini Eiffel tower, which spun around on the float.

We also got to spend time with our niece and nephew. Here's Hardy enjoying the parade.

Of course Nana loves every minute with her grandchildren!

Here I am hanging out with my niece, AnnElise. Isn't she a cutie?

While we were there, Charlie found his old trumpet and showed off his skills.

It was a lot of fun to visit and catch up with everyone. It was a fun weekend to celebrate not only the fish fry festivities, but also the new marriage!
